The Antidote
These days it seems really hard to find some good news, the media is negative and full of bad news. Doom and gloom are all around us.
How about some good news? If you are willing to take a few moments of your time to read this, I can assure you, this will be the best news ever.
But to fully understand and receive this extremely good news, we must first have a full understanding of who we really are.
Let me explain: According to the Bible, by nature we are not very good people or in other words, we are not good enough to meet God’s standards.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
Because of something called sin, we all fall short.
What is sin?
Sin is the bad things we do. For example: bad thoughts-bad words- bad motives-lying-stealing-cheating- adultery-idolatry- selfishness- etc.
We all have a sin problem and our sin separates us from God our Creator.
Romans 6:23a says: “For the wages of sin is death,….”
This means an eternal damnation, which is an everlasting separation from God. Can you imagine what it would be like without God’s Presence?
Maybe you are thinking. “But what about all the good things I am doing or have done? Doesn’t that account for something?”
Please don’t let me discourage you from doing good but the Bible says: “But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags.” Isaiah 64:6.
Sad to say but no matter how hard you try; you cannot save yourself.
“Not of works, lest anyone should boast”. Ephesians 2:9
What if there was an antidote or a cure, would you take it?
For example: What if you had a horrible disease that was going to take your life and you went to the doctor and he told you there is an antidote (free of charge), that would completely cure your deadly disease?
What would you do?
Receive the antidote and be cured or go home and die?
The Good News is, God the Creator of all has a gift (antidote) for you and it’s not a prize for doing good.
“….but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23b
Salvation is a FREE gift for you and all who are willing to receive it. Why would God want to save a sinful person?
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
God’s love for us is awesome and much more than we can fully understand.
There are some people who believe God does not love them and they blame Him for all the bad that is happening, but that’s not the truth. No matter how dim things look in this fallen world please remember, God is Perfect.
Getting back to the Good News. God loves you so much that He gave His only Son Jesus Christ to die on a wooden cross for your sin.
Now that’s love! The blood of Jesus paid your sin debt.
“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3b-4a
The Good News is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9-10
It takes more than a head knowledge of Jesus to be saved. Many have heard the gospel of Jesus all their lives and are still lost. They have heard the truth but they have not allowed Jesus to come into their lives and make the changes.
To be saved from your sins:
Admit: Talk (pray) to God. Admit to Him that you are a sinner and are in need of His help.
Believe: By faith believe in your heart that God’s Son, Jesus Christ died on a cross for your sins and three days later arose from the grave.
Invite: Give Jesus a personal invitation to take control of your life. He will not come in unless you open that door and invite Him in.
Asking Jesus to save me from my sins and inviting Him into my life was the best decision I have ever made. My life is not perfect, I have good days and bad days. But the joy, hope and peace that the Lord Jesus Christ gives me are the best! I can honestly say He has never left me alone. Good news indeed!
